How to start a spring in Poland... Part II 2009-04-28 00:33:58

Chew visit and Marta’s broken nose
The next day after Chew was gone, Monday, lunch time, Marta fell down the stairs in the office and broke her nose! I was a witness of the entire scene and I was the first at her. In that moment I had thought she was about to die – blood on her mouth, she wasn’t moving, lying on the concrete floor…it took the longest 15 min ever for emergency to come, we went to the hospital with her (she needed translation) and she had her nose put in place in very painful way.. Szymon came to the hospital too, he was running after her with i.v. bag full of glucose, acting as a mobile pole, while she was on a wheelchair, to weak to walk alone… He ran to a pharmacy to get her drugs too. Great boos, indeed! Same day, the first aid training was organised for the office and a ban for high heels introduced…
I visited Marta once in her JW construction apartment and now she is absolutely fine and her nose back in shape, happy, enjoying her holidays. In the meantime her contract was over, so she is now looking for a job in Poland to stay here a little bit longer.. She loves Warsaw too ;)

Tri-City commuting
The next day after I was back from Italy, I went to Sopot for a final presentation of the huge competition project we had been working for so long and with a such dedication. I had to go and be there. Guys made a short video of the visualisation, the pictures were good, but we were not perfectly prepared.. I got up at 5.30, 12.30 I arrived to Sopot, I went to see the office and meet for the first time a guy who I had been working for few months over the phone and internet - he is a fun person! The office was full of people, packed nearly like APA but so much more quiet! M says he is getting another two desk, perhaps one for me, but I expect to avoid the noise I normally would make, I can put my desk at one of the balconies…
The presentation went well, I saw our competitor (who is our developer's local architect) having his presentation just before ours…I wonder…
M invited us for a good dinner in Gdynia port.
I would be back home by the night the same day, but on the way we killed the deer…

The big news is that the other building we designed with Sopot few month back is about to be build!!! So now I am intensively thinking about my plans, the decision and potential move to Tri-City which may happen very soon! Living in two Cities in the same time – lovely idea…

I supposed to go to Moscow for APA finally on that week too, but we cancelled the tickets in the end – I was glad, my leg was not good and was very tired…sitting in Moscow hotel for a week and not able to go out it would be miserable idea!

Ice-ring rules!
I was there only once, sharpened my skates and went mad! Still good and fast. Now I can’t do nearly nothing with my leg and my flu…

I went to the doctor, the usg says that my knee is not good, no sports for few weeks, no gym, no sauna, no blades, NO DANCE, maybe 20 min bike in couple of week! And I cant sleep because I cough all the time! Damm it!!!

Weekend away at home
In the meantime I spent several very nice weekends in Warsaw, pretending I’m actually away from Warsaw ;P - hanging around in town and greening parks, having ice-cream and coffees, sushi (with extra free bits and dessert from a very nice sushi-maker ;), mojitos, and zoładkowa gorzka vodkas..

The nice thing is that tomorrow it is gonna be 25C (in a shade), my place is full of sun, the city parks look great and everything blossom like mad! SUMMER IS HERE !!!
And I love it!

How to start a spring in Poland...PART I 2009-04-23 01:01:33

When I was on the intercity train to Warsaw from Tri-City called Neptun and we had killed a.... deer in a forest. This way, I had some time to start writing for you about my life here…
But it was too much anyway, so finally I had to get a flu to stay home and finish my writing. Since I didn’t write for so long I think I will split this note into chapters, so you can navigate and chose the topic you are most interested in…

The First Anniversary
Second of April a full year passed since I’m back to this beautiful country. We had nice Italian 5-course dinner by the candles with excellent service and gorgeous food.... in Italy. As always, I celebrated it outside the country, just in case ;)

A long winter
This was a little bit annoying – snow storms and really cold days for entire March.. But finally it has come, the Spring with fantastic smell of young pine trees and grass, hot sun and long, long days! In my place I can see the pink sunrises and purple sunset and a see of green trees!

Snowboard Trip

The trip was the main feature of my Winter/Spring catharsis.. Carefully planned by the tourist office was my first organised trip and generally I can’t complain (besides my friends the company was not great). The flight to Verona was very pleasant, we have got lolly-pops on board, then the bus brought us everywhere (like school kids) on very narrow and bendy roads, high in Italian mountains. It was so much snow everywhere; the people had snow corridors dug out to their houses and hotels. Our hotel was in a cute little village in the valley in the middle of Val de Sole. I was 4 stars, so we had huge apartment at the top, suitable to accommodate 10 people not only 3, each of us had a bedroom then. We had a terrace with great view over mountains and loads of sunshine. Moreover, there was a SPA, pool, saunas, Jacuzzi… And the food…The food was the best Italian food you can imagine! I would be worth go there only for the food! I had special vegetarian treatment, with some seafood, which I don’t like, but still they were very kind making special meals for me.
The snowboarding was great, I improved definitely!
Unfortunately, on the fourth day, going on flat with one leg off my board (!!!!) I fell down and strained my right knee! Same day I nearly twisted it on a bad lift (the board stack with wet snow) and I was lucky to sneak out under the bar, otherwise I would loose my left knee, but in the evening, I damaged the right one. It was end of snowboarding for me, next day I went to very nice Italian doctor, who said I’was too heavy for my delicate knees, he said it was not too badly damaged and gave me a bag of instant ice. After spending some time with good espresso and grappa, I bought my medicine and went back to the hotel, since weather was bad at that day. I slept for two days ;)
The knee is not very good yet, I’m just back from a doctor here and I have 50 % of my knee fibre damaged - I need rehab. I had to give up gym and sauna for a while, still no cycling, and no mentioning any surfing for 3 months, if I move to Sopot in the meantime!
The way back to home was nice too, weather was getting warm, we saw hectares of wine fields and blossoming almond trees. The flight was a bit a hassle – we had to stop in Krakow for about an hour, but luckily we head perfect observation point over other planes and ground services, so it was not boring at all!
By the way – my mobile went dead in Italy so I lost all the contacts, so please call me sometime, so I can get you back…

As soon I arrived, I found that Ela and David were staying in my place – I was very happy that I could meet them. We drank nearly an entire bottle of Sandeman port I brought (there was no Lambrusco wine in the airport!!!) and chat long night. Next day I had to bring them to my favourite Malinova for the best ice-cream in the world!
I’m very happy about people visiting me here!
Chew was one of them too, we met in town (he brought steel boules of one of our friend, nearly with troubles in the airport), went to a very posh party “Catch Designers” at Foksal 19 night club – exhibition of a photographer http://www.kaczkowska.com/.
With no invitation, we got in anyway, but we did not know the drinks and food was for free!! It was fantastic food and very fancy drinks, and fancy crowd, some models, maybe famous people, but since I have no TV set, I would not be bothered. With Chew we ended up in Bystro for few vodkas. He was very welcome and hugged by some strangers, in result he had a little bit too good opinion about Polish being so friendly… Next day he spent time with my Italian colleague Martha – I had to work, but Im sure they had great time getting lost in town. On Sunday, I made a dinner in my place… I have got an beautiful old oil lamp from Chew, bought in Koło market..
